3 Goal Setting Tips for Women who are Ready to Write their Story & Testimony

Setting goals is an important part of any writing journey, and can be especially helpful for women who are ready to write their stories and testimony. Having specific targets to aim for can give you a sense of purpose and direction, and help you stay motivated when the going gets tough. In this week’s blog post, we are going to discuss 3 goal setting tips you should set as you begin your book-writing journey.

Let’s first start with why setting goals are important?

Setting goals as an author is important. It not only helps you focus your efforts and measure your progress, but also helps you stay motivated on your writing journey, helps you create a plan to reach your goals, and helps you make sure your writing is consistent. Setting goals provides you with a roadmap, which can help you stay focused on the long-term vision for your book. It can be an essential part of developing yourself as an author and achieving success in getting your book in your hands.

3 Goal Setting Tips for Women who are Ready to Write their Story & Testimony

Tip 1: When you think about your goals, think about the impact that you want to make with your story. Ask yourself questions like: Why am I writing my story now? What message am I looking to get out to the world with my story? Journaling and reflecting on this will help you focus on your bigger why of using your voice, and stay on track and motivated on your writing journey.

Tip 2: Focus on one task at a time.  As a writer and someone who wants to get their book out there for others to read and be inspired by, thinking about the entire process of writing your story can get overwhelming. This is why it is important to break down your tasks into manageable chunks so that you can focus on one word and chapter at a time. This focus is essential for productivity and efficiency. When you divide your attention between many different tasks, your brain has to constantly shift gears, which can lead to confusion and exhaustion. By focusing on just one task, you can give writing your story and testimony your full attention and complete your book project on your targeted launch date.

Additionally, focusing on one task at a time allows you to better manage your time and energy, allowing you to be more productive throughout the day. So when you think about setting your writing goals, think about how you can set them up so that you can focus on one task at a time.

Tip 3: Utilize a support system. Whether it's a book-writing coach, a group of friends, or family members, having someone to talk to and give you encouragement can help you stay motivated, especially when writing your personal story and thinking about your goals. Specifically, with a book-writing coach, it is nice to have that additional accountability and guidance alongside you so that you have someone who believes in the vision of your book and writing goals, and supports you in creating a writing plan that aligns with your goals, life, and boundaries.

No matter what goals you set as a woman who is ready to write her story and testimony, remember to give yourself grace, take action, and be committed to bringing your story to life. How you set goals and what you measure for success may look different than someone else’s, and to be honest, that is okay. Step into alignment with what is best for you to thrive to reach your writing goals.
